Recent Work
These pieces reflect ideas I have and questions I am trying to answer after a recent trip to Oman, a country on the Saudi Arabian peninsula. “Vertical Hold” refers to an effort to bring multiple images into focus. Most pieces are oil paintings that I then overlay with a minimal transparency—either a segment of a photograph, a recognizable old master painting or a drawing from my sketch book.
The multiple layer approach helped me synchronize what I knew—or thought I knew—about the Middle East, with what I was actually seeing and experiencing in Oman. We are forever destined to experience life through the veil of culture and time.
