In these paintings I am striving to understand the forms and physicality of species that are moving towards extinction. The beauty of a critically endangered sapphire-bellied hummingbird is no more or less beautiful than a common ruby-throated hummingbird; but the impending loss of the first is profound. Studying these species heightens my senses and my emotional response to consequences and the passage of time.
